3 Ways To Get Rid Of Your Erms & Ahhs

No matter your experience with the microphone, its normal to resort to filler words every once in awhile. Erms and Ahhs come out like second nature to many of us, from the rookie to the experienced. However, there are simple tips you can try to help you avoid these filler words altogether and present in a more professional tone.

These 3 tips that I am going to share with you are super no-brainer and very simple for you to overcome your fear of talking and rambling on.

I seriously feel you every single time when you go on live or even when you are recording yourself in front of the camera and the chances that you are going to ramble on is definitely there.

When you ramble on, there is a chance that you are going to use filler words. Filler words are like “Erm”, “Like”, “So” etc.

They happen but what can you do in order for you to overcome those filler words? If you want to seem more professional or you want to seem more polished in your videos, here are the 3 steps:

Step #1 - Hear Yourself

You got a script so now you have got to hear yourself. Just look through every single thing. Read it out loud and try to envision how you’re going to sound like when you go in front of the camera. When you hear yourself once, you hear yourself once through. You will have a better sense and a better idea of how you would sound like. With that, you can improve your words and the way that you present later on when you go on live.

Step #2 - Practise

Practice makes perfect. After a long time of practicing our work will become natural, skillful, swift and steady.
— Bruce Lee

Practise makes perfect. It’s not just a saying for fun. It is a REALITY. You got to practise in order for you to be more confident in front of camera and for you to minimise your filler words.

There is no other way but to practise.

Step #3 - Silent Yourself

The moment that you have made a mistake or you feel that you have made too many filler words, you can just take a deep pause. Pause a little so there is this silence in your video. With that, you are sending a signal to your video editor that you have made a mistake and this is the part where you can cut out. When you edit your videos, it will look more polished than it originally was.
